Hello everyone! Sorry it’s been a while! I could spend my time explaining, but I’ll save that for my newsletter…
For this post, I want to update you all on the responses I’ve had from the various different companies I’ve been emailing about their impact on the environment. If you’re wondering what it is I’m talking about, see my last post, The Fights Goes On – My Plastic Feedback
In short, I did some research into the worst plastic polluting companies, and the worst users of palm oil, and I then emailed thirteen of those companies about my outrage at them, and started boycotting them.
Out of all of those companies, 5 replied.
Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Nestle and Kellogs basically sent generic responses. At most they addressed their attempts to improve their packaging, and they largely ignored anything else I had written.
I had brought up issues like Coca-Cola’s hand in what can only be described as water theft from countries that are already largely dehydrated to Pepsi’s high use of palm oil in their confectionery, and lots of other issues in between. I am currently working my way through responses to them. I of course understand that the people responding most likely have automated responses to environmental queries, and to be honest I don’t know what I expect as an outcome from this, but I have to try.
L’Oreal had a really great response and as such I have decided to remove them from my list. Whilst they won’t be my go-to company for cosmetics, I don’t see the point in continuing my pursuit of them when could put my energy elsewhere.
Mondelaz International, Proctor & Gamble, Unilever, Mars Inc, Colgate, General Mills, Hershey and Heinz have yet to reply, and so I will be re sending those original emails.
Would any of you be interested in joining me here? Even if you just wanted to send one email to one company, it would make a difference? I would be happy to share the details and the emails I’ve sent to anyone interested, if you are let me know!
I think this is going to be my last environmental post for a little while. I’ll save other updates for my newsletter for the time being. There are so many other things I want to write about and at the moment, I don’t always have time for even one post a month, never mind a couple, so it’s time I worked on some other things. This will be on going though, and there will be future posts! The environment is something we are very passionate about in our household, and we won’t stop, ever.
Don’t forget to sign up to my newsletter for future updates!
